MetroLink has a great offer that just started last month: $10 weekend pass! http://www.metrolinktrains.com/fares/?id=17
You can take MetroLink in from LA, the Inland Empire, San Diego, all over SoCal basically.

On the negative side, I haven’t found a shuttle that can take you from the Irvine station into UCI. It’s 8.5miles away & waiting on OCTA for a bus into UCI could have your commute be a few hrs. for just those 8+ miles.

Hope this helps in planning your commute for those without vehicles or fellow treehuggers. ;)

Get you depart at Tustin Metrolink station? From there you can walk down Edinger/Irvine Center Dr. to Culver Dr. and catch Bus 79 direct to UCI. http://www.octa.net/pdf/pdf/june2011/route079.pdf
