DJ HAPA: 40 Years of Disco, at the Orange County Great Park
Friday, August 5, 8:15 p.m
Free Admission, $10 Parking

The opening night of the Orange County Great Park’s Flights & Sounds summer concert and dance season celebrates a pair of 40th anniversaries: that of the City of Irvine, and of disco music. Irvine was incorporated on Dec. 28, 1971, with a population of 14,231. The disco scene started around the same time in New York, and within a few years was an international phenomenon. Both celebrants have weathered the years quite nicely, and Irvine—current population nearing 220,000—is pleased to welcome its birth mate disco to kick off ten concerts and dances to be held under the stars at the Great Park.

At the turntables will be DJ HAPA, one of the top DJ’s in LA’s club scene, spinning discs at events from Las Vegas to Hong Kong. His entertaining style and encyclopedic knowledge of music are sure to keep you on the dance floor as he gives your feet a lesson in disco music history.

I’m a HUGE fan of disco & its offspring, House music! Good lookin’ out, John!

DJ HAPA got his start on the morning show of KTLA when they’d have a live dj spinning beats as they went to commercial break. A pretty nice touch from what I remember. He’s gone on to much acclaim after landing that gig.

Disco + Branford Marsalis! What a time to have given my car to my sis. Oh well, next yr. should be fun also (recall that last yr. they had some good artists down there also).

peace, love & house music all nite long! ;)
